Diogo Jota is part of the Liverpool squad for the first time in over a month as Jurgen Klopp’s side are entertained by Burnley. Jota pulled up with a hamstring injury in the 1-1 draw at Manchester City on November 25 and hasn’t featured since. Klopp was keen not to rule out the Portugal international prematurely in his pre-match press conference and his optimism has been rewarded by the forward being fit enough for a place on the bench at Turf Moor.Luis Diaz drops to the bench alongside Jota as Darwin Nunez returns as one of five changes on Boxing Day from the team that drew 1-1 with Arsenal on December 23.
Diaz was forced off with a knee injury in the second half and is only fit enough for the subs’ bench this evening with Nunez expected to flank the left side of the front three alongside Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah.
Ibrahima Konate is rested for the game, despite his excellent performance against Arsenal, with Jarell Quansah named alongside Virgil van Dijk as Liverpool aim to go top of the Premier League against Vincent Kompany’s side.
Joe Gomez deputises for Kostas Tsimikas with Klopp now without both senior left-sided full-backs due to injury. Tsimikas suffered a broken collarbone against Arsenal to join Andy Robertson, who had shoulder surgery in October, on the sidelines.
In midfield, Harvey Elliott comes in for Dominik Szoboszlai as Ryan Gravenberch is selected ahead of Curtis Jones while Wataru Endo continues to patrol the base of the engine room.
Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Quansah, Van Dijk, Gomez; Endo, Gravenberch, Elliott; Salah, Gakpo, Nunez.
Subs: Kelleher, Diaz, Jones, Konate, Szoboszlai, Jota, Chambers, Bradley, McConnell.
