Dec. 29 Philadelphia 76ers Injury Report: Tyrese Maxey and Robert Covington’s availability update

Tyrese Maxey and Robert Covington will be available for the Philadelphia 76ers’ game against the Houston Rockets on Friday night. Playing in all but one of the team’s thirty games this season, Maxey has been an incredible asset for Philly. The point guard will be even more crucial in Joel Embiid’s absence as he recovers from a sprained ankle.

Prior to the 76ers’ Wednesday night matchup with the Orlando Magic, Covington was declared healthy. Due to a non-COVID-related sickness, the backup forward missed Philly’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on December 20.

Robert Covington and Tyrese Maxey—what happened to them?
Due to a non-COVID-related sickness, Tyrese Maxey missed his lone game of the season on December 1st versus the Boston Celtics. After that, he spent a few days on the injured list before being cleared to play. Thankfully, the rising star for the Philadelphia 76ers hasn’t experienced any health problems since.

What Maxey endured early last month is what Robert Covington recently went through. Due to illness, Covington was unable to participate in Philly’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on December 20. The adaptable forward is healthy as of late and will be prepared if his number is called.

In small ball rotations, Nick Nurse has deployed Covington with Paul Reed or, on occasion, with Tobias Harris. Covington came off the bench in Wednesday’s victory over the Orlando Magic and finished with two points, two assists, two steals, and one rebound in 11 minutes.

Robert Covington and Tyrese Maxey’s numbers against the Houston Rockets
Tyrese Maxey has put up 16.0 points, 4.3 assists, and 3.7 rebounds on average in three games versus the Houston Rockets. Joel Embiid, the reigning MVP and two-time scoring champion for the Philadelphia 76ers, is likely to be sidelined on Friday, which could help his numbers.

In addition, Maxey will be the primary facilitator for the 76ers, which will enable him to advance in his career against the Rockets.

Robert Covington has faced the Houston Rockets in 19 different games. 10.6 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game are his averages.
