Texas Women’s Basketball Shines in SEC Honors: Coach Vic Schaefer and Star Madison Booker Recognized

In their inaugural season in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), the Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team has made an indelible mark, with head coach Vic Schaefer being named SEC Coach of the Year and sophomore forward Madison Booker earning SEC Player of the Year honors.

Vic Schaefer: Guiding the Longhorns to New Heights

Vic Schaefer’s leadership has been instrumental in Texas’s seamless transition into the SEC. Under his guidance, the Longhorns clinched the SEC regular-season championship, boasting an impressive 29-2 overall record and a 15-1 conference tally. This accolade marks Schaefer’s fourth SEC Coach of the Year award, having previously secured the honor during his tenure at Mississippi State in 2015, 2018, and 2019.

Madison Booker: A Stellar Sophomore Season

Madison Booker has been a cornerstone of the Longhorns’ success this season. Averaging 16.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game, she has showcased remarkable efficiency with a 46.4% field goal percentage and an impressive 41.7% from beyond the arc. Booker’s consistent excellence not only earned her the SEC Player of the Year title but also a spot on the All-SEC First Team.

Additional Honors and Team Achievements

The Longhorns’ defensive strength was further recognized with Rori Harmon being named to the SEC All-Defensive Team. Additionally, freshman Jordan Lee’s impactful debut season earned her a place on the SEC All-Freshman Team.

The collective efforts of the coaching staff and players have positioned Texas as a formidable force in women’s college basketball. As they prepare for the upcoming SEC and NCAA tournaments, the Longhorns aim to continue their exceptional performance and solidify their status among the nation’s elite programs.
