The future of the 29-year-old Montreal Canadiens forward is in jeopardy

Sean Monahan’s future with the Montreal Canadiens appears to be in jeopardy, with the 29-year-old forward emerging as a possible trade candidate for the upcoming trade deadline.

Monahan has a one-year, $2 million contract with the Habs, which he signed last year. According to Sportsnet’s Eric Engels, there have been no extension talks between the player and the club.

Many teams would love to sign the forward, according to Engels, and dealing with him before the March 8 trade deadline may be the best option for the Canadiens.

Notably, if acquired before the trade deadline, Monahan only counts for about half a million dollars against the salary cap.

Engels also stated in Mailbag that the Montreal

The Canadiens have Jake Evans and Christian Dvorak under contract for next season, and if they get a good return, they may consider offloading the 29-year-old forward.
