Auburn Named No. 1 Cheerleading Squad in the SEC, Edging Out Tennessee
AUBURN, AL – In a proud moment for Auburn University, the Auburn Tigers cheerleading squad has been named the No. 1 cheerleading team in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), narrowly surpassing perennial powerhouse Tennessee. The announcement comes after a competitive evaluation period that considered performance excellence, team spirit, sideline leadership, and overall impact on game day atmospheres across the conference.
For years, Auburn’s cheerleaders have been known for their electrifying routines, unwavering enthusiasm, and their role in turning Jordan-Hare Stadium into one of the loudest, most intimidating venues in college football. But now, they have earned official recognition as the best in the SEC.
“We’re honored and thrilled,” said Auburn head cheer coach Lindsay Hopkins. “This team has worked so hard, not just in stunts and choreography, but in leadership and energy. They truly embody what it means to be Auburn men and women—spirited, dedicated, and family.”
The evaluation, conducted by a panel of collegiate cheer professionals and SEC media observers, considered a variety of factors beyond athleticism. Crowd engagement, sportsmanship, innovation in routines, and consistency across football and basketball seasons all played major roles. Auburn’s all-around dominance, especially during key moments in the 2024-25 season, sealed the top spot.
Close behind in second place was the University of Tennessee, a program with a rich history and national accolades of its own. Tennessee cheer brought their signature energy and Vol pride throughout the year, and many experts consider the top two to be in a league of their own.
“It was incredibly close,” said one SEC panelist. “But Auburn showed a new level of leadership this year. Their sideline presence was magnetic.”
Fans across the Plains aren’t surprised. Auburn’s cheer squad has become synonymous with Tiger pride, often going viral for their stunts, crowd chants, and support of all Auburn athletic teams. Whether it’s flipping across the field during pregame or rallying the Jungle during basketball season, they’ve earned their top-tier status.
Social media lit up with support after the announcement, with Auburn fans, alumni, and fellow student-athletes sharing their congratulations under hashtags like #WarEagleCheer and #1InTheSEC.
As Auburn continues to rise across multiple sports, this cheerleading recognition is yet another symbol of the program’s all-around excellence.
War Eagle—on the field, in the stands, and now officially at the top of the SEC cheer pyramid.
