Joe Cole warns Chelsea that if they agree to a January transfer, they will make the same mistake as Manchester City

Joe Cole has urged Chelsea not to sell Conor Gallagher this month, as speculation about his future grows.

Tottenham are interested in signing Gallagher, 23, because of his recent form at Stamford Bridge. In the absence of injured pair Reece James and Ben Chilwell, the England international has started all but one of their Premier League games this season.

Gallagher is a key member of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, but that may not be enough to keep him. Due to Premier League financial rules, Chelsea may need to balance the books this month, and they could make a significant profit on Gallagher.

The Epsom native graduated from Chelsea’s academy and is now worth £60 million. He’s also taken part.

That way, they can spend the next six months negotiating a new long-term contract with Gallagher’s representatives. Cole does not want Chelsea to make the same mistake that Manchester City made when Cole Palmer left four and a half months ago.

On deadline day, City sold Palmer, 21, to Chelsea for just £42.5 million. He’s arguably the best signing of Todd Boehly’s ownership at Stamford Bridge, which began in May 2022, with nine goals and seven assists in 23 appearances.

“You’ve got to give credit to the boys for getting it over the line,” Cole said after Chelsea’s 1-0 home win over Fulham on Saturday. “Gallagher is outstanding once again.” He must begin February wearing a Chelsea shirt. “I’m overjoyed for Pochettino.”
