Leicester City transfer breakthrough as target has ‘now said yes’ to January move

Leicester City could receive a timely boost ahead of their top-of-the-table clash with Ipswich Town as Jamie Vardy pushes for a return to the squad.

City’s number nine is back in training after a knee injury, and a strong week at Seagrave could put him in contention to return against the second-placed Tractor Boys. If Vardy is involved, it will be his first appearance since the end of November.

Manager Enzo Maresca said last week that Vardy “is better” and started to train with the group. The striker, who turned 37 last week, wrote on Instagram on Sunday: “Good to be back in training with the lads.”

If Vardy does return, it would be a significant boost given the striker situation at the club. Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanacho are both at the Africa Cup of Nations, meaning Tom Cannon was the only striker in the squad at Coventry. When he tired late on, Kasey McAteer had to go up front.
