Erik ten Hag defends Manchester United winger Antony: “He’s unstoppable

After slipping in the running for a starting position, Antony has been backed by Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag to regain his form.

In the summer of 2022, the Brazilian moved from Ajax to join the team. He was without a doubt the right wing’s starter for the majority of the 2022–2023 season.

Similar action was observed at the beginning of the season, but Antony has been limited to the bench for league games since the New Year.

The winger made his debut last weekend against Fulham as a 99th-minute replacement, with Omari Forson receiving his first start.

Ten Hag claimed he had supported Antony for a long time and that, when in form, he is unstoppable when questioned about the late substitution.

The manager went on to say that he is quite assured.

He is one of the fastest players in the first 10 yards, thus no defense can stop him. He will therefore act when he plays that game. He will, I’m positive, and I’m extremely confident in that.

“I have no doubt that he’s tough, a character, and he will fight back. I therefore back him there, where he must now wait for his opportunity and pick up after getting there.

Under Ten Hag, Antony is no longer a guaranteed starter.
Last season, the former Ajax player was guaranteed a starting spot on the right wing for nearly every match; but, due to his recent bad performance, things have changed.

The talent, who is valued at €35 million, had a terrible second season.

at United. In his twenty Premier League games, he has not registered a goal or an assist.

His single contribution came in the FA Cup fourth round victory over Newport County, 4-2.

In recent months, Alejandro Garnacho has surpassed him in the competition for the right wing position.

Following Rasmus Hojlund’s injury last weekend, Garnacho moved to the left flank; nonetheless, Ten Hag chose to start Forson over Antony on the right side of the attack against Fulham.

Based on the manager’s news conference, it appears that Antony won’t be starting against Nottingham Forest. It might be Amad Diallo, who Ten Hag praised for his appearance the previous Saturday.
