Eagles’ Nick Sirianni on Haason Reddick confirms its trade rumors: he’s an eagle

Head coach Nick Sirianni expressed his desire to keep two-time Pro Bowler Haason Reddick two weeks after the Eagles gave him permission to pursue a trade. Sirianni told reporters at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis that he’s not sure how things will work out with Reddick but that “hopefully he’s an Eagle” when all is said and done. General manager Howie Roseman clarified that the rumors about Reddick stem from a desire to combine “what you’re trying to do this year” with “how you’re going to look in the future,” but he still praised him for being an important member of the defense.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport unexpectedly reported on Super Bowl Sunday that the Eagles gave Reddick’s camp permission to pursue a trade.
Reddick used X to make it clear that he never requested a trade from the Eagles, but he acknowledges that “it’s a business” and that this means making some potentially tough choices.

Three of the top 53 picks in the 2024 NFL draft are expected to be selected by the Eagles, who will have nine picks overall. It’s likely that they could increase that sum if they traded Reddick.

As a free agent in March 2022, Reddick signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Eagles. He is now in the final season of that deal.

For the Eagles, the deal has been a huge success. Over the last two seasons, Reddick has accumulated 27 sacks, with a career-high 16 in 2022.

With its cap in good shape, Philadelphia can afford to have Reddick return in 2024. At the moment, the team is $32.5 million under the cap. The team’s three main free agents are Brandon Graham, Fletcher Cox, and Jason Kelce. According to rumors, Kelce and Cox are

both are thinking about retiring, though neither has formally announced it.

After the 2024 season, Graham has said that he would retire. The Eagles need to get a lot of help on defense after the team faltered late in 2023, in addition to perhaps needing to replace those roles on the roster if any or all of that group isn’t back next season.

The highest cap hit on the Eagles roster for the upcoming season will be $21.4 million for Reddick. He also has the highest base pay on the squad, at $14.25 million.
