Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are now tracking Manu Kone in view of his transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach as the Premier League rivals target new midfielders.

Anfield and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium chiefs are eager to improve Jurgen Klopp and Ange Postecoglou’s respective engine rooms in 2024. Liverpool and Tottenham both believe their midfields require work in the New Year. But they are not alone in admiring a move for Kone.

According to Rudy Galetti, Kone is earning admirers at Liverpool, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain with his performances in Germany. PSG have also now marked the 22-year-old as a real target for the New Year with Luis Enrique identifying upgrades to Les Parisiens’ midfield.

Kone has only played a bit-part role at Borussia Monchengladbach so far this season after an early-term knee injury. The 22-year-old missed the start of their Bundesliga campaign due to the issue. He also later served a two-match ban for a straight red card at FC Koln in October.

Fohlen boss Gerardo Seoane has started Kone in seven of his eight Bundesliga outings, plus one of two DFB-Pokal ties. The former France U21 international, who Daniel Farke said was ‘worth his weight in gold’ while Gladbach’s coach, has also scored two goals so far this term.

Liverpool studied targeting Kone’s transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach this summer, as well, but they signed Ryan Gravenberch instead. Christian Falk reported at the end of August that Die Fohlen also expected the Reds to bid after lowering their €50m (£43m) asking price

Kone’s injury tempted the Borussia-Park team to drop their valuation to €35m (£30m) ahead of deadline day. Now, rival interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham in Kone may see Liverpool meet a higher price tag for Kone’s transfer from Borussia Monchengladbach again.

Borussia Monchengladbach could reinforce their original asking price as Kone has a contract in North Rhine-Westphalia until June 2026. He agreed to sign a long-term deal when joining Die Fohlen from FC Toulouse in January 2021. Kone stayed at Le Tefece until after 2020/21.
