Palmeiras youngster Estevao Willian is currently one of the best youngsters in world football. At just 16 years of age, he has excelled in Brazil and is set to (maybe) follow the same path as team-mate Endrick Felipe, who joins Real Madrid in the summer.
Estevao, nicknamed ‘Messinho’ for his style of play similar to the Argentine icon, has attracted interest from Europe’s elite over the past 12 months, but at this stage two clubs seem to be leading the race: Chelsea and Barcelona. The first was recently in Brazil for talks and Catalan officials also made the trip, although only to monitor the young man.
According to MD, a pair of Barcelona scouts sent Estevao to watch Estevao at the recent Kopinha tournament, during which he scored five goals and assisted two in six games. They will also participate in the Olympic qualifying tournament in Brazil, which will also take place at the end of this month. They will be looking at a variety of talents there, although they are expected to look at Chelsea’s Andrey Santos in particular.
The signing of Brazilian youngsters has worked and failed for Barcelona over the years. Vitor Roque just made the trip and he certainly won’t be the last to do so..
