According to reports, Chelsea is now considering making a signing that would break their transfer record.
After dealing with Brighton for the past 18 months or so, the Blues are considering making a bid for Evan Ferguson, according to TalkSport.
The talks lasted the majority of the summer, but it wasn’t until Liverpool made their interest in the player clear that the deal was struck.
The Ecuadorian, on the other hand, made it clear that he wanted the Blues, and the deal was eventually completed for a club-record fee.
However, it has recently been reported that they may be willing to break that rule in order to bring in Ferguson, whom they have long admired.
Chelsea is considering a large Ferguson bid.
The Irishman has already demonstrated a high level of ability in
his brief reign as Premier League champion. Alan Shearer called him a’very special’ player.
He really took the headlines earlier this season. Mere hours after Chelsea were defeated at home to Nottingham Forest, the youngster found the net three times against Newcastle United at home.
The report does go on to say that it is unlikely Ferguson makes the move anytime soon, with him only signing a new contract with his current club months ago.
The Blues have been widely linked with the signing of a striker either this month or at the end of the season.
Victor Osimhen has often been touted as the favourite for many figures at Stamford Bridge, however his recent new contract makes that impossible during the January transfer window.
Elsewhere, they have also been linked with Premier League star Ivan Toney, although he looks set to see out this season at least with Brentford after returning from his suspension.
