During a conference call on Tuesday, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed reporters, providing injury updates from the team’s regular-season finale against the Los Angeles Rams.
Clelin Ferrell, who left Sunday’s game early due to a knee injury, is expected to miss the 49ers’ first playoff game on January 20th.
“Clelin Ferrell, with his knee, he’s going to miss a few weeks,” Shanahan said. “It’s possible to get him back sometime in the playoffs.”
Christian McCaffrey, who did not play against the Rams due to a calf injury, will not practice this week but is expected to return next week ahead of the 49ers’ first playoff game.
Before the game, the team will hold two practices.
Cornerback Ambry Thomas (hand) and safeties Ji’Ayir Brown (knee) are expected to return to practice this week, as is safety Tashaun Gipson (quadricep). The team intends to open the practice window for safety George Odum (torn biceps) this week, potentially allowing him to return for the Divisional Playoff round.
After suffering a head injury on December 17, wide receiver Jauan Jennings has been released from the concussion protocol.
Several other injury updates were provided by the coach. Arik Armstead (foot, knee) is expected to return to practice this week. Armstead has not played since December 3rd.
“Armstead’s looking good,” said Shanahan. “We should be able to get him back in practice this week.” He’s improving. He looked good today, and that was the test, so we’re going to continue.
to have him in practice on Thursday. Hopefully, it goes well, and we’ll get him in for a few minutes on Friday [as well].”
End of the defensive line Drake Jackson (knee) is not yet fit to return from injured reserve.
“I don’t think that’s an option right now,” said Shanahan.
