Karim Benzema is one of the centre-forward options Chelsea could be considering for a short-term deal, according to a recent report from The Telegraph.
According to Fabrizio Romano Substack, however, it will not be easy for the Blues to sign Al-Ittihad star or Roberto Firmino. He also wrote in his column: “I am told that there is nothing concrete or developed.“
With the 36-year-old seemingly off the table, Chelsea are running out of options in their search for a new striker.
Chelsea have struggled with Karim Benzema this month.
Benzema only joined Al-Ittihad last summer and is one of the biggest names in the Saudi professional league.
With that in mind, it’s no surprise to hear that signing the Frenchman this transfer window will be difficult. His current club obviously does not want to lose him.
You can see why Chelsea would want him. Benzema is one of the best strikers of this era and was described as a “complete player” by his former manager Carlo Ancelotti (Marca).
Unfortunately Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t seem to be getting him this month. So his employers will hav ine to sign someone else either now or in the summer, which is starting to look more likely.
Chelsea should have more options then. Clubs are more open to selling their players without mid-season. In an ideal world, Pochettino would probably want someone now..
