Graeme Souness believes Chelsea
Brentford striker Ivan Toney, 27, would be a great signing for Chelsea or Arsenal this month.
That’s according to expert Graeme Souness.
Ivan Toney (27) returns today after an eight-month ban for a betting offence. He has been confirmed to start and captain Brentford in Saturday night’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.
However, there is a lot of talk about his future in the transfer rumour.
Sky Sports claimed a few months ago that Brentford would require £100m to sell Toney due to interest from both Chelsea and Arsenal.
Interestingly, the England striker was open about his future this week.
Souness has suggested Brentford’s centre-forward, a proven Premier League goalscorer, could be the answer to Chelsea or Arsenal.
“I can understand why Ivan Toney is saying publicly that he wants to move to a big club now,” Souness told The Daily Mail.
“He had to travel with football and it didn’t work out right away. Newcastle loaned him for three years. He had to work to establish himself.
“He’s 27 years old – at the peak of his powers as a striker – and it’s now or never for him. You could say that Brentford looked after him during his suspension, but they also get a lot of money from him.
“I really don’t see them standing in his way – even with their difficult season and injuries. He could be the missing piece for Arsenal or Chelsea, both of whom need a different type of striker..
