David Ornstein claims Chelsea could sign Ivan Toney from
Brentford, who is not currently on Chelsea’s transfer radar.
So says respected journalist David Ornstein.
Ivan Toney, 27, could return to action later this month after serving a lengthy football ban. Will he still be at Brentford for the rest of the 2023/24 season?
The English midfielder is certainly a very popular name in the transfer rumours. We’ve seen Chelsea linked with him a lot lately.
However, journalist Ornstein claimed that Toney is not the right profile for what Chelsea are looking for as a number 9.
Speaking on The Athletic’s podcast “The Daily Transfer Briefing”, Ornstein said: “Ivan Toney, who I am as far as I know, it’s not the exact profile Chelsea are looking for.
“So, maybe they’re looking for something a little less known, a little lower profile, who knows, it’s exploring all those options. .“
It certainly surprises us!
We have no doubt that Mauricio Pochettino’s side will struggle to progress until they bring a prolific goalscorer to the club
Chelsea haven’t looked at it yet Ivan Toney
Despite speculation to the contrary, Toney may not be on Chelsea’s roster.
On paper, we believe the Brentford forward is the perfect fit for the Blues given his record and overall quality as a leader.
He has looked a real handful for Brentford with 32 goals in 66 Premier League matches, despite having yet to kick a ball this season due to suspension.
Elsewhere, Chelsea have been linked with another striker in the January window.
The Record claimed this week that Sporting Lisbon have rejected an offer of around €85m (£73m) from Chelsea for Viktor Gyokeres. The 25-year-old striker will pay his full £86m release clause to sign in January.
If it’s a toss-up which striker scores more goals in a Chelsea shirt, we’d win with Toney Gyokeres..
