New Lady Vols Coach Kim Caldwell Vows to Restore Tennessee to Glory
The Tennessee Lady Vols have long been one of the most storied programs in women’s college basketball, but in recent years, they have struggled to reclaim their former dominance. Now, new head coach Kim Caldwell is ready to change that. In her first public address since taking over the program, Caldwell vowed to restore the Lady Vols to national prominence, honoring the legacy of Pat Summitt while building a future filled with championships.
“This program is built on greatness. It’s time to bring it back to the top,” Caldwell said. “We have everything we need—the history, the fans, the talent—to compete with the best in the country, and we will.”
Caldwell, who comes to Tennessee after a successful coaching stint at Marshall, is known for her intense coaching style, passion for the game, and ability to develop players. She inherits a team hungry for success and a fanbase eager to see the Lady Vols return to the championship conversation.
Over the past decade, Tennessee has seen SEC rivals like South Carolina and LSU rise to power, while perennial powerhouses like UConn and Stanford have continued to dominate the national scene. Caldwell, however, believes the Lady Vols can regain their edge and once again be the team everyone fears.
“Tennessee basketball has always set the standard. My job is to make sure we get back to that,” she said. “It won’t happen overnight, but I can promise you—we’re going to work harder than ever to get there.”
Caldwell also emphasized the importance of recruiting top-tier talent and developing the players already in the program. With a strong basketball culture and one of the most passionate fanbases in women’s sports, she believes Tennessee is still a dream destination for elite players.
“We’re going to recruit the best, develop the best, and play the kind of basketball that makes Lady Vol Nation proud,” she declared.
As Tennessee prepares for a new era under Caldwell, expectations are high—but so is the belief that she is the right person to lead the charge. With her vision, energy, and commitment to excellence, the Lady Vols are poised to rise again
