While there was plenty of good play to go around as Liverpool and Arsenal, two of the Premier League’s leading title contenders, faced off at Anfield, it was the center-backs who stood out the most as a unit. Some of the defensive play, both in and out of possession, was remarkably good on both ends.
Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté for Liverpool and Gabriel Magalhes and William Saliba for Arsenal put on a defensive clinic. Each is at ease on the ball — though Van Dijk and Saliba are ahead of the others in that regard — and the quartet’s errors were kept to a minimum.
For Liverpool fans, this was an opportunity to see Saliba up close and personal.
