Severe Weather Alert: Ex-Hurricane Storm Kirk Set to Bring Wet and Windy Conditions to France

Storm Kirk, once a powerful hurricane, is still making its presence felt as it tracks east-northeast across the North Atlantic. While the storm has significantly weakened, it remains strong enough to bring a spell of wet and windy weather to parts of France in the coming days, according to forecasters.

The ex-hurricane is expected to lose further strength as it continues on its path, but residents in northern and western France have been advised to brace for unsettled conditions. Meteorologists predict heavy rain and gusty winds, which could cause localized flooding and potential travel disruptions.

The French weather service has issued warnings for coastal areas, with wind speeds expected to reach up to 70 km/h in some regions. The wet weather could also extend into parts of the UK and Belgium, as Storm Kirk pushes its way eastward.

While the storm is no longer classified as a hurricane, its remnants are still packed with moisture, making it capable of dumping significant rainfall in a short period. Areas most at risk include Brittany and Normandy, where up to 50 mm of rain could fall over a 24-hour period.

Forecasters suggest that the worst of Storm Kirk’s impact will occur over the weekend, with conditions expected to gradually improve by early next week. However, those in affected areas are urged to stay updated with the latest forecasts and take precautions against the wind and rain.

Although Storm Kirk is weakening, it serves as a reminder that the Atlantic hurricane season still poses risks even after storms are downgraded. Authorities across northern France are monitoring the situation closely and preparing for any potential impacts.
