Sporting star gives shocking reply to Chelsea

Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres appears to have rejected a potential January move to Chelsea.

Gyokeres, 25, joined Portuguese giants Coventry City last summer after scoring 21 goals for the Sky Blues in the Championship last season.

The Swedish international has continued in electronic form this season, scoring 22 goals and providing 10 assists in just 25 appearances.

Chelsea are desperate to add goals to their squad this month. It was reported in Portugal this week that the Premier League side have tabled a £73million bid for the striker, with part of it coming in the form of performance bonuses.

Sporting rejected this offer with an £86 million release clause.

When asked about Chelsea’s interest, Gyokeres confirmed that he is fully focused on sport and is not thinking about his next move.

“I don’t think anything of it,” he told Sport TV. – I’m here and we have important games ahead, I’m focused on that.

“There’s a lot of talk on social media and elsewhere, but I’m not focused on that, I’m thinking about something else. I’m here now. I’m 100 percent focused on this and the club.

Discussing Chelsea’s offer, Sporting boss Ruben Amorim said it was simply not enough to entice the club to do business.

“I don’t know, I didn’t. even ask [director of football Hugo] Viana,” said Amorim this week.

“Obviously I was told about the news. As soon as they said it was 85 million euros, I thought, “that’s not enough”. It is only 100 million euros. [£86 million]. I’m not worried.

Last January, Chelsea traded with fierce rivals Sporting Benfica to sign Enzo Fernandez.

The Blues rejected several offers before finally agreeing to pay his £106 million release clause..
