Update; ‘Outstanding’ Chelsea player appears to miss training ahead of League Cup semi-final vs Middlesbrough

One key Chelsea player has now not been spotted in training ahead of their return to action later this week.

A video posted on the club Twitter has shown the first team players at Cobham heading out for a session, however Malo Gusto was not seen in action alongside his teammates.

Gusto has become one of the more important players for the Blues in recent weeks after the injury suffered by Reece James that has left him out for multiple months.

The Frenchman seems to be the only full-back option fit to feature on both sides at the moment who can bring some attacking threat to the side.

His performances recently have backed up the hype surrounding him, with Micah Richards recently describing a performance as ‘outstanding’.

However, there may be some worry amongst Chelsea fans when it emerged that he didn’t seem to take part in training ahead of tomorrow’s crucial EFL Cup match.

Gusto not seen in training
The Blues are looking to turn around a 1-0 first leg deficit against Middlesbrough to try and book a place at Wembley for the final.

The performance will have to be so much better if they are to do so, and Mauricio Pochettino may look to avoid going back to the false nine system that he tried last time out where Cole Palmer missed a hatful of chances.

If Gusto is not fit enough to play, it is likely that Axel Disasi makes the move over to the right of defence, which will see them lose a lot of what they have going forwards on that side.

Chelsea will at least be hoping to welcome back Ben Chilwell to the starting side tomorrow on the left, with him featuring off the bench for the first time since September in their last win against Fulham in the Premier League.
