With the transfer window now in its third day, Chelsea are said to be wasting no time in negotiating potential transfer targets this month. We hear Chelsea are interested in a new striker this month and could add one to their ranks if a suitable option comes along.
However, they are also constantly linked with new central defenders, which is clearly an area of improvement. The Sun have an exclusive report this morning which claims Chelsea are in talks with Benfica to sign 20-year-old centre-back Antonio Silva, who has been closely watched by their scouts recently.
Chelsea will now hope to beat Manchester United and Liverpool with Silva, with both Premier League clubs also showing strong interest in the defender.
According to the report, Chelsea made an initial offer of £52 million, including Armando Broja, but the Portuguese rejected it. Instead, Chelsea were told they had to meet an £87m release clause to sign Silva.
