Vardy, Alves, Fatawu the wild card Enzo wants to release against Ipswich Town

Jamie Vardy is pushing for a return to the Leicester City squad ahead of their top-of-the-table clash with Ipswich Town.

After recovering from a knee injury, City’s number nine is back in training, and a strong week at Seagrave could put him in contention to face the Tractor Boys. If Vardy plays, it will be his first game since the end of November.

Manager Enzo Maresca stated last week that Vardy “is better” and has begun training with the team. On Sunday, the striker, who turned 37 last week, posted on Instagram, “Good to be back in training with the lads.”

Given the club’s striker situation, Vardy’s return would be a significant boost. Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanacho are both at the Africa Cup of Nations, so Tom Cannon was the only striker in the Coventry squad. Kasey McAteer had to go up front when he tired late in the race.
