Now that we’re heading into the playoffs, Moody has erased all of his failures. didn’t miss an extra point all season. It was Week 7 when he didn’t score.
The Niners were rolling offensively, so they didn’t have to rely on Moody. He hasn’t had a game since the Browns where he attempted more than two punts. To give you an idea of how skilled the 49ers offense has been this season, Moody had just three attempts of more than 50 yards in the final week of the regular season.
In the “what have you done to me lately” world, some 49ers fans began to worry about Moody’s playoff chances after he missed a 38-yard field goal that went wide right and then pushed the extra point right.
This is the second time this season that Moody’s sacks have changed the game and the outcome. The Week 18 contest didn’t matter, but missed sacks over the next three games will be costly.
Kyle Shanahan was asked about his concerns about Moody:
“It’s never good to miss him, especially with two like that and an extra point. I think it was his first 40, maybe all year.” He had a hell of a year. He’s done a great job so far and he just had a rough day today.
The Niners aren’t pulling the trigger on Moody yet. Shanahan’s follow-up was whether the team would consider adding another kicker to the practice squad in case Moody gets the nod. Kyle said, “No, he’s been great all year. He was tough on those two today, but no, we’re good with Jake.
Moody finished 20th in the league in field goal percentage, but it gives you an idea when most NFL kickers are accurate. He only missed four and double-digit weeks all season.
However, this would happen every time you draw a hit on turn three. He is under pressure to make every shot. And when he doesn’t, these questions arise. Hopefully this will be the last time we discuss the kicker this season, unless it’s a game winner..
