The 49ers will not be starting quarterback Brock Purdy in the season finale against the Rams if my #1 is set.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters in a press conference Wednesday that Purdy will be in the team’s Week 18 game at Levi’s Stadium. Sam Darnold gets the start. In two of the last three games of the equipment, Purdy had to leave for some time because his shoulder would not throw. With left tackle Trent Williams possibly out as well, it makes sense that San Francisco doesn’t want to risk their starting QB spot behind the offensive linemen. Shanahan noted that Purdy is the only player who is certain to rest Sunday. Darnold played in nine games for the 49ers this year. He is 12-of-20 for 108 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Sunday will be his first start for San Francisco since this offseason In 65 games, Darnold has started 55 times in his career. He is completing 59.7 percent of his passes with 62 touchdowns, 56 interceptions and 6.7 yards per attempt.
