The 49ers are strengthening their defensive line internally. Agent Brett Tessler reports that Taylor Stallworth, a former defensive tackle for the Titans, is joining San Francisco’s practice squad. Since the team hasn’t made the addition official, it’s unclear what the matching action is.
With Kalia Davis, a second-year defensive tackle, placing himself on injured reserve due to an ankle ailment, the 49ers are severely lacking in bodies at defensive tackle following Stallworth’s signing. Going into Week 16, the only two healthy players at that position are Javon Kinlaw and Kevin Givens. Javon Hargrave and Arik Armstead are also dealing with ailments.
T.Y. McGill, an experienced defensive tackle, is also on the practice squad and may be added to the active roster on Monday if the team is still sidelined by injuries.
After making his Saints debut in 2018, Stallworth has participated in 58 games, making two starts. He has played for Tennessee, New Orleans, Indianapolis, Houston, and Kansas City. He has 52 tackles, 7 tackles for loss, 14 quarterback hits, and 4.5 sacks in 58 games.
